When he was fifteen he ran away to the firefly plains, where "spirits" supposedly go. Because he stayed a few years, he stopped aging, and is physically stuck at about 15-16.

As previously mentioned: what a horrible thing to be a teenager forever. A fate worse than death, surely. D: (But at least he's not a high school student forever-- that would be a fate worse than death, and not even in a verbally ironic way.)
